WP Vault
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
WP Vault is a viewer for WhatsApp backups that you already own. It was built so that your conversations never have to leave your iPhone, and they don’t. The app does collect anonymous usage statistics about how its features are used, described below, and you can turn that off at any time.
Your chats and backups stay on your iPhone
Your imported backups, messages, contacts, media and the 64-digit backup key are processed only on your device, inside the app’s private storage, which iOS keeps separate from every other app and from us. They are never uploaded anywhere and are never part of analytics.
- Imported backups and everything derived from them stay in WP Vault’s sandboxed storage on your iPhone or iPad.
- The 64-digit decryption key is used in memory while a backup is imported and is never written to disk.
- Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.
- WP Vault opens backups read-only. It cannot send, modify, or restore anything into WhatsApp.
- There is no account system and there are no ads.
Anonymous usage statistics
WP Vault uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous statistics about how the app is used, so we can fix problems and improve the features people rely on. This covers events such as:
- which features are used, for example an import started, succeeded or failed, search used, media viewed;
- the trial and purchase flow, for example the paywall shown, the trial started or ended, a purchase completed;
- counts grouped into ranges, durations, and error categories.
We never collect chat content, contact names, phone numbers, message text, file names, file paths, encryption keys, or anything else taken from a backup.
As with any app that uses Google Analytics for Firebase, Google also receives standard technical data automatically: the app version, the iOS version, the device model, an approximate region derived from the IP address, and a random app-instance identifier that is not linked to your identity. WP Vault does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track you, does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and does not link any of this data to who you are.
Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC process this data on our behalf as a service provider. See Firebase privacy and security and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. For people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the legal basis is consent: WP Vault asks once on first launch, and you can withdraw consent at any time with the switch described below. Elsewhere, statistics are on by default and the same switch turns them off.
Turn usage statistics off
Usage statistics are on by default, except in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, where WP Vault asks first. In those regions (decided from your device’s region setting) the app asks once on first launch, “Help improve WP Vault?”, with Share anonymous data or No thanks. Statistics stay off until you agree, and a “no” is remembered.
In every region you can change your choice at any time: open WP Vault, go to the Vault tab, then Privacy, and use the Share anonymous usage data switch. Turning it off stops collection and asks Firebase to reset its local analytics data on your device. You can turn it back on at any time.
Purchases and the free trial
The optional “Full Archive Access” unlock is a one-time purchase processed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple’s own privacy policy. On your device the app keeps only the date your free trial started (the day you first imported one of your own backups) and a flag saying the purchase is active, and it checks your purchase entitlements with Apple when needed. We do not receive your Apple ID, payment details or name.
Links in the app
The in-app Android guide contains a few links to help pages (WhatsApp, Google and Apple). They open in your browser only when you tap them, and those sites have their own privacy policies. WP Vault sends nothing to them.
Children
WP Vault does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The usage statistics described above are anonymous.
Support emails
If you email us for support, we see the address you write from and whatever you choose to include. Please don’t attach database files or backup keys to emails.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date.
